My husband was an anthropology major in college. He always wanted to see Machu Picchu. We took the family to Machu Picchu for his 50th birthday and our 20th anniversary.!
What was your itinerary?
Day 1: Arrived in Lima
Day 2: Went to Cuzco, Spa time at the Tambo del Inka Luxury Collection Resort then visited the town – Urubamba, dinner at Hawa.
Day 3: Explored Sacred Valley and dinner at 3 keros.
Day 4: Headed to Machu Picchu via Ollantaytambo Train, stayed at Palacio del Inka and dinner at Kion
Day 5: Visited Cusco and dinner at Cicciolina
Day 6 to 8: Traveled to Puerto Maldonado, stayed at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica
Day 9 & 10: Went to Lima 1, visited Larco Herrera Museum, lunch at JW Marriott Hotel Lima and dinner at La Huaca Pucllana
Day 11: Explored Lima and dinner at Osso.
Day 12: Went back to home.

What was the highlight of your trip?
-staying in the Amazon without internet was an amazing way to unplug from everything
-Tambo del Inka was a fabulous resort with an amazing location and food
-June is winter in Peru. The temps were wonderful, even in the Amazon
-we used a travel agent to plan this trip and were very glad we did it with so many moving parts.
-we also had a personal guide in each area which truly enhanced the trip.
-Sleeping at the hotel on Machu Picchu was a fantastic experience. Much better than staying in the town below.
-The food in Peru is delicious!
If you were to take this trip again, is there anything you would add or do differently?
-Lima did not thrill us and we would not spend much time there if we went back.
